Virginia Railway Express and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority have completed significant upgrades at Quantico station, improving safety, rail service, and capacity on key Virginia-supported train routes. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) recently completed a major $27.5 million improvement project at Quantico station. This project enhances safety, expands service, and boosts rail capacity for both VRE’s Fredericksburg Line and Amtrak’s Virginia state-supported routes.

The Quantico station upgrades included constructing a pedestrian bridge, a new central platform, and an extension to an existing platform, giving the station three boarding platform edges. Additional improvements to the station house include fresh paint, updated furnishings, and advanced display screens for passengers.

These Quantico station improvements are part of a broader VPRA project funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Commonwealth of Virginia. CSX handled the construction, which added a third mainline track over 9.2 miles from Arkendale to North Possum Point, aiming to improve schedule reliability for both VRE and Amtrak trains.

The $101.4 million Arkendale project represents a critical component of the VPRA’s “Transforming Rail in Virginia” initiative. This statewide program focuses on expanding passenger rail service throughout Virginia, aiming to support increasing ridership and provide a more efficient rail service.
